The six suspects involved in the shooting incident near a Weligama hotel have been granted bail by the Matara Magistrate’s Court.

The court set the release conditions, requiring two surety bonds of Rs. 1 million each for each suspect.

The suspects appeared before the court today (21 March) in connection with the shooting that occurred in front of a hotel in Pelena in Weligama, Matara, on 31 December 2023.

In related developments, former IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon, who had been in hiding for 20 days after a warrant for his arrest was issued, surrendered to the Matara Magistrate’s Court on the 27th of last month. Tennakoon faces charges of conspiring to commit murder in the same shooting incident.

Following his surrender, the court ordered that Tennakoon be remanded until 3 April 2023.
