Acting IGP Instructed to Nominate Police Team for Inquiry into Deshabandu Tennakoon

The Committee of Inquiry appointed to investigate alleged acts of gross abuse of power by IGP T.M.W. Deshabandhu Tennakoon has formally requested the Acting Inspector General of Police to nominate a police investigation team to assist with its probe.

The request was communicated through an official letter, and it was disclosed during the Committee’s second meeting held today (25 April) in Parliament.

The Attorney General has appointed Additional Solicitor General (President’s Counsel) Dileepa Peiris and Deputy Solicitor General Rajitha Perera to assist the Committee in its work.

At today’s meeting, the Committee conducted preliminary discussions on how future proceedings would be carried out and on the involvement of key stakeholders in the process.

It was decided that the Committee would reconvene on 28 April 2025 to determine the next steps in the inquiry.
