The government is considering limiting physical attendance at the weekly Cabinet media briefings to journalists who possess the media ID issued by the Department of Government Information.

Cabinet Spokesperson Nalinda Jayatissa, speaking at today’s (29 April) media briefing, said the move is aimed at streamlining the format and improving the clarity of the sessions.

He clarified that the primary objective of the briefing is to communicate Cabinet decisions, and only a limited number of related or essential questions will be entertained during the event.

“Journalists can attend the Cabinet press briefing to get information about Cabinet decisions. For other types of information, they can contact the relevant ministers or officials,” Jayatissa added.

He noted that steps will be taken to implement new procedures to ensure the briefing remains focused and time efficient.
