Two security officers assigned to the official residence of the Swiss Ambassador to Sri Lanka—including the Chief of the Security Post—have been arrested by Kollupitiya Police in connection with the theft of valuable jewellery from a safe inside the residence, Mawbima newspaper reported.

Among the stolen items were the Ambassador’s wedding ring and a ring that had belonged to her late father. Following further investigations, police also arrested a locksmith from Kompanna Veediya who is alleged to have duplicated a key used to access the safe.

The stolen jewellery, including the two rings, was recovered from the main suspect’s residence in Weligama, where it had been concealed.

The missing items, valued at approximately Rs 4.5 million, included several gold and gem-studded pieces: a diamond-studded ring, an emerald-studded ring, a ruby-studded ring, a gold necklace, a white gold bracelet, a gold wedding ring, a gold pendant, a pair of sapphire-studded gold earrings, and an Omega Ladymatic wristwatch.
