All arrangements have been finalised for the National War Heroes’ Day ceremony, which commemorates the 16th anniversary of the ending of the war in Sri Lanka.
The event will take place today from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the War Heroes Memorial in Battaramulla, under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda, and Marshal of the Air Force Roshan Gunathilaka—who led the tri-forces in the final phase of the conflict—are also expected to attend the ceremony.
In light of the commemoration, police have announced a special traffic plan for the area surrounding Parliament in Battaramulla. While no roads will be closed, traffic along Parliament Road—from Polduwa Junction to Kianyam Junction via Jayanthipura—may be restricted if congestion occurs.
As alternative routes:
- Vehicles leaving Colombo may travel from Polduwa Junction to Battaramulla Junction, and then proceed via Palam Thuna Junction to Kianyam Junction.
- Vehicles entering Colombo may take the reverse route—from Palam Thuna Junction to Battaramulla Junction, and continue from Polduwa Junction towards the city.
Motorists are advised to follow police instructions and expect possible delays during the event hours.
