Motorists can now use debit and credit cards to pay toll fees on all expressways in Sri Lanka starting today (21 May), the Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation announced.

In a statement, the Ministry said that card payments are now enabled at exit gates along the Southern Expressway, the Colombo–Katunayake Expressway, and the Mirigama–Kurunegala section of the Central Expressway.

The new system has been implemented across 35 interchanges and 119 exit gates, marking a major step towards contactless and cashless travel on the country’s high-speed road network.

The Ministry stated that the move is part of the government’s broader initiative to adopt modern technology to improve public services, minimise travel time, and provide greater convenience for commuters.
