MP Dayasiri Jayasekara yesterday (16) stressed that Minister Bimal Rathnayake and all officials involved in the release of 323 containers should be immediately arrested if a committee investigating the incident concludes that their release was unlawful.

He made these comments yesterday (16 June) after submitting a Right to Information request to the commission.

Jayasekara further explained: “The media recently reported that a committee appointed to investigate these 323 containers had concluded their release was unlawful — that’s the committee’s view. The CID tried to summon me and Gammanpila to provide statements. We gave our statements, and I was questioned for over five hours.

“The main reason for this was a press conference we held about the 323 containers — not because we committed a crime. If, according to the committee’s decision, their release was unlawful, then Minister Bimal Rathnayake should be taken into custody immediately, and the CID should pursue action against all officials involved in their release.”
