Two daughters and a son-in-law of former Minister Keheliya Rambukwella were taken into custody on 19 June by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) in connection with an ongoing investigation into money laundering.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Chamithri Jayanika Rambukwella and Amali Nayanika Rambukwella, both daughters of the former minister, along with Isuru Pulasthi Bandara, the husband of Amali Rambukwella.

CIABOC stated that the investigation centres on the alleged accumulation of assets amounting to over Rs. 134 million (Rs. 134,097,731.39). The probe includes the acquisition of two houses valued at Rs. 40 million and Rs. 20.5 million, respectively, as well as a luxury motor vehicle.

In addition, investigators have moved to suspend nearly 40 fixed deposit accounts and life insurance investment plans believed to be linked to the alleged illicit financial activity.
