The Federation of University Teachers’ Associations (FUTA) has decided to stage a one-day strike across all State universities today (30) over several demands.
FUTA General Secretary, Senior Lecturer Charudatta Ilangasinghe, said the trade union action was prompted by several issues affecting the State university system.
These include a shortage of university lecturers, excessive workloads placed on existing staff and inadequate physical facilities.
Ilangasinghe said FUTA had also organised a march for tomorrow (31) in conjunction with the strike.
He added that the trade union action aimed to draw public attention to the challenges facing Sri Lanka’s State university system.
