U.S. President Donald Trump has reposted his formal letter to Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, correcting an error in the original version which mistakenly spelled the President’s first name as “Aruna.”
The revised letter, dated 9 July 2025, reaffirms the United States’ intention to move ahead with a 30% tariff on Sri Lankan exports starting 1 August. In the letter, Trump cited ongoing trade imbalances and what he described as “very persistent” tariff and non-tariff barriers imposed by Sri Lanka.
While the substance of the message remained unchanged, the initial name error sparked online attention. The updated version now properly addresses the Sri Lankan leader as Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
