Daycare Caretaker Remanded After Toddler Drowns in Embilipitiya

CCTV footage showing the tragic drowning of a one-year-and-eight-month-old child at a daycare centre in the Thorakolayaya area of Mulaadiyawela, within the Embilipitiya Police Division, has been circulating on social media.

According to police, the child, who had been under the care of the daycare centre, drowned in a small pond located within the premises on 9 March.

The caretaker of the daycare centre was arrested by Embilipitiya Police the same night on charges of causing death by negligence.

She was produced before court the following day and was ordered to be remanded until 18 March, when the case will be taken up again.

Embilipitiya Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
