In a tragic incident that has sent shockwaves through India’s sports community, 25-year-old tennis player Radhika Yadav was allegedly shot dead by her father at their residence in Sector 57, Gurugram, on Thursday morning.

The shooting reportedly occurred around 11:30 am at their first-floor apartment. According to preliminary investigations, a domestic argument escalated to violence, during which Radhika’s father is said to have fired five bullets—three of which struck her. She was rushed to a nearby private hospital, but despite efforts to save her, she succumbed to her injuries. Hospital authorities later informed the police, who confirmed the fatal shooting.

Radhika Yadav was a promising talent in Indian tennis. Born on 23 March 2000, she reached a career-high ITF women’s doubles ranking of 113 on 4 November 2024, and was ranked fifth in Haryana’s women’s doubles circuit. Known for her agility, tactical skills, and unwavering dedication, Radhika had represented India in several national and international tournaments. She was considered one of the country’s emerging stars in women’s doubles, alongside players like Poorvi Bhatt and Thaniya Sarai Gogulamanda.

While investigations continue, some media outlets have speculated that Radhika’s frequent use of Instagram, particularly her interest in creating reels, may have been a point of contention with her father. However, this claim remains unverified, and no official statement has been released by the family. Radhika’s uncle, who visited the police station, declined to comment. (ET)
