The Lanka Mineral Sands Company has suspended its institutional subscription to the Anidda newspaper, reportedly in response to the paper’s coverage of the recent removal of T. Ashoka Peiris from his post as Chairman of the company, by subject minister Sunil Handunnetti.

Anidda had reported that Peiris was removed without prior notice by Minister of Industries and Enterprise Development, Sunil Handunnetti. Following the publication, the company decided to cancel its standing order for the newspaper.

This decision was formally communicated through a letter dated 8 July, sent by Lanka Mineral Sands’ Manager of Administration and Human Resources, B.A. Hemalatha, to the Distribution Manager of Anidda, according to the newspaper.

According to the letter, the company’s board had decided to suspend the 2025 subscription to the newspaper, effective from 9 July 2025.
