Three police officers attached to various police stations in the Matara Division have been suspended from duty following misconduct at a massage centre (spa) in Walgama, Matara.
The suspension order was issued by the Acting Superintendent of Police (SP) of the Matara Division after an internal inquiry found the officers guilty of improper behaviour.
According to reports, the officers had visited a massage centre (spa) in Walgama and engaged in a heated verbal exchange with the manager. They were later accused of attempting to obtain services from the establishment without payment.
An investigation was launched based on a complaint, and it concluded that the officers were at fault. Disciplinary action was taken on the grounds of tarnishing the reputation of the police service, misuse of official position for personal benefit, and engaging in conduct deemed corrupt and unethical.
The suspended officers were serving at the Matara Division Intelligence Unit, and the police stations in Thihagoda and Mawarala, respectively.
The Matara Division Police Headquarters has launched further investigations into the incident.
