The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has taken over a five-storey building, valued at nearly Rs. 100 million, belonging to Dematagoda Ruwan, an underworld figure and organised criminal.

The building was seized yesterday by the CID’s Illegal Assets Investigation Division, following revelations that it had been acquired using proceeds from drug trafficking.

Previously, legal action had been filed against Dematagoda Ruwan, his wife, sister, and son over assets allegedly accumulated through illegal means.

A senior official has told Lankadeepa newspaper that the property had been under investigation for a considerable period as part of broader inquiries into assets earned unlawfully by drug traffickers and organised criminals, and it has now been placed under state custody. (Courtesy: Lankadeepa)
