SLT-MOBITEL Mobile has launched ‘Yaya Agro,’ an exclusive all-in-one smart agriculture app developed in collaboration with Fintelex (Pvt) Ltd to empower Sri Lankan farmers with tools to farm more intelligently, safely, and sustainably.

Yaya Agro marks a new phase in digital agriculture in Sri Lanka, combining technology, expert knowledge, and community empowerment to help farmers make informed decisions, increase productivity, and build long-term resilience.

The platform was developed with support from GIZ and Hatch and validated by leading academic and professional institutions including the University of Colombo, the Institute for Agrotechnology and Rural Sciences, and the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society. The app integrates agricultural guidance, real-time weather forecasts, first aid support, and AI-based assistance into a single, easy-to-use interface.

The launch positions SLT-MOBITEL as an innovative and collaborative technology leader extending its role beyond telecommunications into agriculture. Through partnerships with technology and academic institutions, the company aims to empower farmers with AI-driven tools, multilingual access, and improved market connectivity, while reinforcing its commitment to digital inclusion and sustainable development.

Designed as a comprehensive digital companion, Yaya Agro brings precision farming insights and market access directly to farmers’ smartphones. Suitable for small-scale home gardens as well as commercial farms, the app provides actionable guidance to improve yields, manage risks, and connect with buyers through an integrated online marketplace.

Farmers can access daily crop information validated by the University of Colombo, including expert recommendations, pest management tips, and best practices. Location-based weather forecasts support better planning, while first aid tutorials and safety information verified by the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society prepare users for on-farm emergencies. An integrated AI assistant provides round-the-clock personalised advice, with notifications aligned to crop cycles.

To ensure accessibility, Yaya Agro is available in Sinhala, Tamil, and English and offers interactive educational content through videos, voice guides, and infographics. The marketplace, developed in partnership with GIZ and Hatch, allows farmers to directly engage with buyers and expand commercial opportunities.
