Health and Mass Media Minister and Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa stated that certain legal proceedings unfold in such a way that anyone can make predictions about their outcomes.
He made this remark in response to a question raised by journalists regarding the announcement made on the Sudaththa Thilakasiri YouTube channel prior to the court’s decision on the case involving former President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
“The government has not interfered in this legal process in any way. Not only in this case but in all matters, including financial fraud and corruption, space has been given for independent investigations. The responsibility of the government is only to provide the necessary facilities to those institutions,” Jayatissa said.
He further emphasised that this instance demonstrates that the law applies equally to individuals at all levels of society.
Recalling a past incident, he noted, “Earlier, Victor Ivan too had reported a court judgment in advance. Depending on how some cases proceed, anyone can make a prediction. Some may believe bail will be granted, while others may think it won’t. These are like mere speculations—sometimes correct, sometimes wrong. If someone raises accusations based on that, it amounts to contempt of court.”
