Ven. Narampanawa Ananda Thera, Deputy Registrar of the Asgiriya Chapter, has been elected as the new Anunayake (Deputy Chief Prelate) of the Asgiriya Chapter of the Siyam Maha Nikaya.
The official election was held today (28) at 2.00 p.m. at the historic Uposathagaraya of the Asgiri Maha Vihara in Kandy, under the patronage of the Mahanayake of the Asgiri Chapter, Most Venerable Warakagoda Gnanarathana Thera.
Nineteen senior monks of the Asgiri Karaka Sangha Sabha were eligible to cast their votes in the election.
Two candidates were nominated: Ven. Urulewatte Dhamarakkhitha Thera, Chief Incumbent of the historic Mahiyangana Raja Maha Vihara and a senior member of the Asgiri Karaka Sangha Sabha, and Ven. Narampanawa Ananda Thera, Senior Registrar and Dhamma Teacher of the Asgiri Chapter.
The position of Anunayake had fallen vacant following the passing of Ven. Anamaduwe Sri Dhammadassi Thera, who previously held the post.
