The United National Party (UNP) Working Committee has decided to lift all party bans and disciplinary actions imposed on UNP members who had joined the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB).

The committee also appointed a special panel, chaired by former Attorney General and President’s Counsel Tilak Marapana, to examine any legal implications that may arise when implementing this decision.

UNP Chairman Vajira Abeywardena stated that this move removes the obstacles that had previously prevented former members from rejoining and working with the party in cooperation.

The Working Committee meeting, chaired by UNP Leader and former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, was held at Sirikotha, the party headquarters in Pitakotte.

During the meeting, a proposal was unanimously passed to extend gratitude to all parties that collaborated with the UNP in joint political efforts since Wickremesinghe was arrested recently.
