Central Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe stated that all assets belonging to him and his family members have been legally earned and duly declared under the declaration of assets and liabilities law.

Responding to a journalist who questioned whether it was a conflict of interest for him to have Treasury Bond investments of Rs 45.6 million while serving as the CBSL Governor, Dr. Weerasinghe said such investments were made in accordance with the internal circular that governs all CBSL employees regarding personal investments.

He emphasised that if anyone requires clarification regarding the contents of his asset and liability declarations, they are free to lodge a formal complaint through the proper legal channels, and he would fully explain the origin of his assets “down to the last cent.”

Dr. Weerasinghe further pointed out that all Central Bank employees are bound by a code of conduct, and that his own and his family’s investments have been made in full compliance with this code as well.

He also noted that he has maintained a personal income tax file with the Department of Inland Revenue for over 40 years and has paid taxes on all earnings. He added that similar declarations of assets and liabilities had been submitted in previous years as well.

Dr. Weerasinghe reiterated that anyone with doubts about his assets or tax records is entitled to file a complaint, which he would address transparently.
