One of the leading tele award festivals in Sri Lanka, Sumathi Tele Award at yesterday(20 September) at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre in Colombo. The event was graced by leading actors, actresses, journalists, politicians and other veterans from the film and entertainment industry.
Sumith Rathnayaka won the best actor and best director awards while Umali Thilakarathne bagged the award for best actress. "Maddahana" was awarded as the best drama. Kavinga Perera and Nayanathara Wickramarachchi won awards for most popular actor and actress as "Devana Inima" won the award for most popular drama. Vetran actresess Nita Fernando and Swarna Mallawarachchi were honored with the most prestigious U.W. Sumathipala Lifetime Achievement Award.
Since its inception and first ceremony in 1995, the prestigious Sumathi Awards recognize outstanding achievements in television in Sri Lanka and through this, the show aims to further encourage Sri Lanka’s television industry to grow and mature with the passing of time.
