Malaysia's Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar, sultan of the state of Johor, sure likes to travel in style.
After commissioning the world’s most expensive Mack truck to the tune of an estimated RM1.4 million (US$319 million) last year, the state ruler’s latest acquisition, a customized Boeing 737 aircraft, arrived from the United States on Monday.
The aircraft, adorned in gold and blue paint, as well as the state flag, touched down at the Senai International Airport in Johor at around 1.30pm.
Sultan Ibrahim was at the airport to welcome his new plane, which also has the crest of the Johor royal family emblazoned on its rear wing.
After landing, he took a tour of the plane, which can carry 25 to 30 people and is fitted with a dining room, bedroom, shower and three kitchens, all of which took about two years to complete.
The sultan intends to use the airplane to promote his state and for other uses, such as ferrying those who could not afford to go for the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.
An avid traveler, the sultan is also a qualified pilot and plans on going for simulator training in Brisbane before flying the plane himself.
When asked about where he would take the plane for its maiden voyage, Sultan Ibrahim told The Star: “I have yet to plan my trip but I might just take a flight to Penang for nasi kandar (rice served with curry and a variety of side dishes).”
The sultan is known to be a luxury vehicle-enthusiast, as he owns a vast collection comprising of cars, motorcycles and trucks.
