U.S. Worst Oil Spill Becomes Movie (Watch Trailer)

The first official trailer for Deepwater Horizon, a new movie inspired by the worst oil spill in the U.S. history, was released on Youtube Wednesday.

The disaster film came nearly six years after the massive 2010 explosion of the Deepwater Horizon oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico, an incident considered as one of the world's biggest man-made environmental disasters in history.

Directed by Peter Berg and starring Mark Wahlberg, Kurt Russell and John Malkovich, the film is slated to premiere on September 30 this year.

The 2010 explosion of the oil rig killed 11 workers and injured a dozen back then.

The accident spilled more than 630 million liters of oil into the sea, contributing to the worst accidental oil spill in history -- and cost British oil giant BP, then user of the offshore oil drilling rig, billions of U.S. dollars in penalties.
