US Capitol On Lockdown After Shots Fired At Visitor's Centre

The U.S. Capitol was on lockdown Monday afternoon after gunshots were fired at the visitor center.

One Capitol police officer was shot, but not seriously wounded, the Associated Press reported. The gunman was taken into custody.

An email sent to Capitol Hill staffers said the building had been locked down “due to a potential security threat,” MSNBC reported.

The White House was also on lockdown, and all staffers had been told to shelter in place.
