The Pakistani government says more than 200 thousand people have left their homes since the launch of a major military offensive in the tribal region of North Waziristan.
More than 200 suspected Taliban militants are reported to have been killed during a week of aerial attacks.
BBC correspondent Shahzeb Jillani, in the north-western town of Bannu, witnessed thousands of people are on the move carrying few possessions.
He spoke to one man who said Islamic militants had already left the areas the government was targeting.
