At least 10 paramilitary commandos were killed in a blast set off by Maoists in Bihar's Aurangabad district on Monday night.

The Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (COBRA) unit launched an encounter after the IED blast killed soldiers, killing four Maoists.

Central Reserve Police Force commandos (CRPF) commandos of elite COBRA battalion were killed after Maoists triggered an Improvised Explosive Device or IED blast in the jungles of  Aurangabad district, officials said. The incident was reported from Chakarbanda forests bordering Imamganj.

The security forces were conducting the search operations after the encounter ended this morning as they suspect that Maoists may have planted more IED in the area. Some arms and ammunition were also recovered from the site.

Officials said the mobile phone connectivity is very bad in the area and much information is not trickling out.

The battalion was deployed in Bihar for conducting anti-Maoist operations. The elite COBRA has been raised by the CRPF for special jungle warfare operations.

This is one of the biggest casualties of the elite COBRA unit which has been raised by the CRPF for undertaking special jungle warfare operations.
