The BJP is all set to boost its political fortunes in the Valley with the induction of Dr. Hina Bhat - the daughter of former NC leader Muhammad Shafi Bhat - into the party fold.
Muhammad Shafi Bhat is a former MLA of the NC from the Amirakdal constituency of Srinagar, but he later switched his allegiance after the NC denied him party ticket in the 2008 elections from Amirakdal.
Calling the BJP a party with a clean image, Dr. Bhat - a trained dentist - said she joined it because of its "transparent policies". Bhat joined the party recently. "Unlike the Congress, NC or Opposition PDP, the BJP has a clear-cut development agenda. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stated that he will resolve the Kashmir issue. He is a visionary," she told Mail Today. She said it is a fact that the BJP didn't win from any assembly constituency in the Valley. "But the Congress also didn't win any seat a few years ago. We will break the ice and people will support us," she said.
Bhat said she will focus on the development of youths in the upcoming Assembly polls scheduled to be held in October or November this year.
"There are hundreds of youths who are being prosecuted, denied passports and are being unnecessarily targeted. I will reach out to them. I will be pressing the government the cases against them be withdrawn," Dr. Bhat said. She said regional political parties have spread wrong notions about the Article 370 and the BJP. "The party has no plan to remove the Article which gives special status to Jammu and Kashmir," she said.
