Russia Says International Inspectors Found No Violation By It In Border With Ukraine

International inspections have not registered any violations on part of Russia, including undeclared military activity, at the border with Ukraine, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman said on Sunday.

"According to the results of [international] inspections, no violations or undeclared military activity on the part of Russia have been registered at border areas with Ukraine," Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said.

Some 18 international inspection teams have visited Russia’s border areas with Ukraine over the last four months in the framework of the Vienna Document 2011 and the Treaty on Open Skies.

The teams included representatives of the United States, NATO, and even Ukraine. These groups have carried out aerial surveys of the indicated areas and visited military units.

The US Ambassador to NATO Douglas Lute and US State Department deputy spokesman Marie Harf stated that "about 15 thousand soldiers" are allegedly located along the border with Ukraine.

On July 15, the Russian Defense Ministry invited military attachés from 18 countries, including the United States and Germany, to assess the situation on the Russian-Ukrainian border, which has been hit multiple times by Ukrainian artillery. In one of the more recent incidents, one civilian died and two more were injured in the Russian city of Donetsk in Rostov region bordering eastern Ukraine.

Moscow condemned the attacks, saying that such provocations could have irreversible consequences.

Earlier this month, Moscow also invited OSCE observers to assess the situation on the Russian-Ukrainian border.
