Filmmaker Aparna Sen is today being questioned by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the Rs. 10,000 crore Saradha chit fund scam. Ms Sen was the editor of Paroma, a magazine launched by the Saradha group.
The Enforcement Directorate will today also question, for the first time, a minister in the Mamata Banerjee government in connection in the scam. Textile minister Shyamapada Mukherjee is expected to go to the Enforcement Directorate today.
According to Mr Mukherjee, he has no links with Saradha except that in 2009, he had sold some land in Bankura to the Saradha group. Sources claim it was not just land but a loss making cement company to Sudipta Sen, chairman of the Saradha Group who is now behind bars.
The Enforcement Directorate is investigating violations of the Companies Act by the Saradha group. The Central Bureau of Investigation is simultaneously investigating criminal offences in connection with the scam.
The Saradha group, which operated a multi-level marketing scheme for several years, went bust last April, leaving thousands of small investors without their savings in Saradha schemes.
