Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had said the closed door meeting with former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was not a "secret one".
"It was the first time I met him for a chat after the Parliamentary election. There was no 'secrecy' involved in the meeting," the Prime Minister has told his close associates on Sunday.
"When I met the former President in Parliament, President Maithripala Sirisena was in the adjacent room. I had nothing to hide," Wickremesinghe has further added.
Wickremesinghe met Rajapaksa last Friday in Parliament following a request made by the latter. There was no exact information about matters that were discussed at the meeting.
However, the timing of the meeting was crucial as it happened a day after the release of the JMO report on the death of former Rugby player Wasim Thajudeen. The report confirmed that the Rugby player was murdered after assaulting him with a blunt weapon.
