The Prisons Department says it has launched an investigation into a video clip circulating on social media, which shows an inmate, said to be an organized criminal, comfortably staying inside a prison using a mobile phone.

The video shows the inmate in question using drugs while watching his mobile phone, as well as another inmate massaging his head.

Information had also been posted on social media that the inmate in the video is an organized criminal detained at the Boossa Prison.

Accordingly, the Prisons Department has started an investigation into this matter.

When Ada Derana inquired, a spokesperson for the Prisons Department stated that the Boossa Prison Superintendent had confirmed the incident is not one that occurred at the Boossa Prison.

However, the Prisons Department further stated that the superintendents of the Boossa, Galle, and Angunakolapelessa prisons have been notified to provide an immediate report on this incident.
