The organisers of a public rally scheduled to be held today (21) at 2 p.m. at the Ananda Samarakoon Open-Air Theatre in the Mirihana Police Division have applied for a permit to use loudspeakers, police said.
According to a statement issued by the Sri Lanka Police, Members of Parliament, religious leaders, political party representatives, supporters, and members of the public are expected to attend the rally.
Police noted that several GCE Advanced Level examination centres are located near the venue and warned that the use of loudspeakers could disturb students sitting for the exams.
The exams are scheduled to take place today from 8:30 a.m. to 11:40 a.m. and again from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Police have therefore instructed that loudspeaker use must comply with existing regulations and must not interfere with students arriving at, leaving, or sitting for the examination.
Conditions have been issued specifying that loudspeakers may only be used within the rally premises and must be operated in line with the permit requirements, ensuring no disturbance is caused to the examination activities.
Police have informed the permit applicants to strictly adhere to these conditions.
