Police say strict action will be taken against the growing trend of youths engaging in illegal night-time motorcycle street races on public roads.
According to police, if deaths or injuries occur during such races, those involved may face charges under both traffic laws and the Penal Code, including offences of murder or attempted murder.
Last year, several illegal motorcycle races were organised via social media and held on coastal and main roads, with betting reported to be involved.
Authorities and members of the public have raised serious concern over the continuation of this dangerous phenomenon, which police say has persisted into this year, with youths frequently violating traffic regulations and disrupting major roads.
Commenting on the issue, Police Media Spokesperson SSP F. U. Wootler stated that investigations have found many of those taking part in illegal night street races to be under 18 years of age.
He further noted that such riders act irresponsibly and pose a severe threat not only to their own lives but also to the safety of other road users.
