Acting Inspector General of Police, Priyantha Weerasooriya, has issued a directive requiring all police personnel conducting nighttime vehicle inspections to adhere to strict safety protocols.

Under the new regulations, officers must wear luminous jackets and gloves while on duty to ensure high visibility during night operations. Additionally, they are instructed to exclusively use the standard-issue red signal torches provided by the department to halt vehicles, the Police Media Division said.

The move aims to enhance the safety of officers and motorists alike, reducing risks associated with low visibility during nighttime inspections. The directive is effective immediately, the Police said.
