Teen arrested over reckless motorcycle riding caught on video

A 19-year-old youth has been arrested by the Police in connection with a video circulated on social media showing a motorcycle being ridden recklessly on a public road.

According to Police, the video showed two youths riding a motorcycle in a manner that obstructed other road users and posed a risk to vehicles travelling along the road.

Following the circulation of the footage, Police launched an investigation which revealed that the motorcycle had been travelling towards Anamaduwa.

Officers attached to the Nawagattegama Police Station arrested the rider yesterday evening (8) on charges of riding the motorcycle in a reckless and dangerous manner, endangering other motorists and motorcyclists on the road, and attempting culpable homicide.

The motorcycle used in the incident was also taken into Police custody.

The suspect is a 19-year-old resident of the Nawagattegama area.

He is due to be produced before the Anamaduwa Magistrate’s Court today (9). Further investigations are being carried out by the Nawagattegama Police.
