Former Minister Chamara Sampath Dasanayake has claimed that Sri Lanka is being embarrassed before the international community due to the actions of the current Government.
Speaking at a Sri Lanka Freedom Party Women’s Day event held yesterday (9) at the Kandyan Cultural Centre in Kandy, Dasanayake criticised the Government’s handling of international affairs.
During his speech, he also strongly criticised Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath over his command of the English language during a recent discussion held in India.
Dasanayake stated that although he himself was not proficient in English, the Foreign Affairs Minister should feel embarrassed if he was unable to properly communicate in the language while representing the country at international forums.
He further noted that during the Government in which he previously served, scholars such as Lakshman Kadirgamar had held the post of Foreign Affairs Minister, but claimed that the position was being diminished under the current administration.
