Hiru TV has publicly apologised over errors made in its calculation and reporting of the assets and liabilities declaration of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands and Irrigation Minister K.D. Lal Kantha.

The apology was aired yesterday (18), following a report broadcast on 16 April 2026 in which the channel acknowledged that the stated value of the Minister’s securities holdings and the total gross value of his assets had been incorrectly calculated.

The channel said the corrections were subsequently broadcast during its 6.55 p.m. and 9.55 p.m. news bulletins yesterday.

According to Hiru TV, the earlier report had mistakenly stated that the total value of the Minister’s securities amounted to Rs. 380,906,705.40. It clarified that, based on the actual assets and liabilities declaration, the correct value should have been Rs. 143,475.60.

The broadcaster further admitted that its earlier claim that the Minister’s total gross assets exceeded Rs. 460 million had also resulted from a calculation error.

It said the corrected figure placed the Minister’s total gross assets at approximately Rs. 80 million.

Hiru TV also expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to Minister Lal Kantha as a result of the inaccurate report.
