A key suspect allegedly involved in a planned series of bomb attacks targeting Colombo has been arrested by the Terrorism Investigation Division, Police Media Spokesperson Assistant Superintendent F.U. Wootler said.
The suspect was taken into custody during a raid carried out yesterday (20) in the Kala Veediya area of Ja-Ela following intelligence information received by police.
He has been identified as a 38-year-old resident of Colombo 15.
According to preliminary investigations, the suspect had allegedly planned bomb attacks targeting crowded locations in Colombo, posing a serious threat to national security.
Police suspect the plot was directed by underworld gang leader Mohamed Najim Mohamed Imran, widely known as “Kanjipani Imran.”
The suspect is to be questioned under detention orders before being produced before court.
Further investigations are underway into others allegedly linked to the conspiracy and attempts made to procure explosives, police said.
