Nine suspects have been arrested in connection with the brutal assault of a mother on a public road in Gokarella, an incident that sparked widespread outrage on social media, Police said.

The assault had taken place on 16 April in the Medalanda area of Gokarella.

Police stated that the suspects had fled the area following the attack. However, they were later taken into custody after an extensive investigation carried out by the Gokarella Police.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the assault had stemmed from a long-standing dispute among a group of relatives.

Further investigations are ongoing.
