The Government expects to soon present to Parliament a draft Bill aimed at cancelling the parliamentary seats of MPs elected through the public vote who later cross over to another party, Cabinet Spokesperson and Minister Nalinda Jayatissa said.

He made these remarks during today’s (26) Cabinet decisions media briefing.

Responding to the matter, the Minister said that despite various claims and reports, the Government had no intention of recruiting any opposition MPs into the ruling party.

While acknowledging that certain parties may have such expectations, he stressed that the Government was not preparing to do so, adding that the administration had received a clear public mandate and would act accordingly.
