As Sri Lanka steps into 2025, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has called it the dawn of a transformative era, promising progress and prosperity for all citizens. In his New Year message, the President expressed optimism about the nation’s future and highlighted the government’s vision to address pressing challenges while embracing new opportunities.
Reflecting on the achievements of the past year, President Dissanayake remarked, “The parliamentary elections of 2024 enabled us to establish a government with a strong majority, earning the trust of people across the North, East, West, and South. With this mandate, we have initiated a transformative political shift, fulfilling our democratic responsibilities to build the good governance our citizens aspire to.”
The President underscored three primary areas of focus for the year: eradicating rural poverty, launching the “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative, and fostering a digital economy.
The “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative, unveiled with the start of the New Year, aims to promote a holistic societal uplift through social, environmental, and ethical transformation. “This initiative represents a significant step towards building a sustainable and ethical society,” the President stated.
Economic stability achieved in 2024 forms the foundation for the government’s plans to further the country’s development in 2025. Building a robust digital economy is a cornerstone of the administration’s vision to modernize Sri Lanka and provide equitable opportunities for all.
In his New Year address, President Dissanayake called on Sri Lankans to unite in their pursuit of a brighter future:
“For the first time in Sri Lanka’s history since independence, we now have the chance to make the dream of a united and developed nation a reality through people-centered governance. This unparalleled responsibility rests upon all of us, and we fully understand its importance.”
The President affirmed the government’s determination to reclaim lost opportunities and create a nation marked by peace, progress, and prosperity.
As the country ushers in a new chapter, the President wished all Sri Lankans a Happy New Year filled with unity, hope, and renewed purpose.
