Rakhitha Rajapakshe, the son of former Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, and Charith Abeysinghe, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya organiser for Horana, have been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

The arrests were made in connection with an investigation into the alleged acceptance of a Rs. 120 million bribe to facilitate the transfer of organised crime figure Nadun Chinthaka, alias “Harak Kata”, from detention under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) to a separate prison and to allegedly bribe officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to have him treated as an ordinary inmate.

CIABOC also said that Airport and Aviation Services Director Arun Varushavithana was arrested in connection with the same investigation.
