Former Millaniya Pradeshiya Sabha (PS) member Ravindra Rammuni, affiliated with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), was granted bail by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court after being arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for making gender-discriminatory remarks against National People’s Power (NPP) MP Nilanthi Kottahachchi on social media.

Rammuni was taken into custody on 3 January at his residence in Anguruwathota following a complaint filed by MP Kottahachchi. The complaint was related to a Facebook post made by Rammuni, which reportedly included gender-discriminatory remarks targeting the MP. Although the post was later deleted, it had already attracted significant attention.

The CID launched an investigation into the matter after MP Kottahachchi lodged a formal complaint, alleging that the post was defamatory and discriminatory.

Rammuni appeared before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court, where he was granted bail pending further investigations.
