US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie Chung visited the head office of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) this morning and held discussions with party leaders, including National Organiser MP Namal Rajapaksa.

Her visit came a day after a group of ‘nationalists’—known supporters of the SLPP and its leader, former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa—staged a protest in front of the US Embassy in Colombo, accusing the United States of promoting LGBTQ values among Sri Lankan children.

Namal Rajapaksa too, raised questions about how USAID funds were utilised in Sri Lanka following the recent statements of Elon Musk.

Ambassador Chung arrived at the SLPP office around 10.00 a.m. and engaged in discussions for over an hour and a half.

During her visit, she met with SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam, along with former MPs Sanjeewa Edirimanne, C.B. Ratnayake, and Jayantha Ketagoda, as well as MP D.V. Chanaka.
