NDF MP Chamara Sampath Dassanayake today (21 February) raised concerns over the release of photos showing the suspect who shot Ganemulla Sanjeewa inside the court.

Speaking in Parliament, Dassanayake said:

“Yes, the killer was arrested within eight hours. We appreciate that—it was a good job. But did you see the photos of him after the arrest? It looked like he was in love with the police officers who caught him, having friendly conversations inside the van. Who leaked those photos and made him look like some kind of hero? This should not happen again.”

In response, Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala stated that some of the images circulating on social media were generated by AI.

“There are AI-generated photos spreading online. Please be aware of that when raising these matters in Parliament,” Wijepala said.
