Lawyers representing suspended IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon have filed a motion with the Court of Appeal, seeking permission to submit additional documents in his petition challenging the Matara Magistrate’s Court order for his arrest.

The Court of Appeal is set to announce its decision today (17) on whether to grant an interim injunction. Tennakoon had sought an interim order preventing his arrest over the shooting near W15 hotel in Weligama on 31 December 2023.

Meanwhile, the Attorney General has instructed the Criminal Investigation Department not to arrest six suspects, including the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Colombo Crimes Division, until preliminary investigations are completed, following an agreement reached at the Court of Appeal, the Police Media Division stated yesterday (16 March).
