The Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security has handed over the report of the Presidential Commission investigating the Easter Sunday bombings to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigations, following instructions from the President, Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala said.

A Presidential Commission was appointed on 22 September 2019 by then President Maithripala Sirisena to investigate and make recommendations regarding the coordinated terror attacks that took place on 21 April 2019.

The Commission, chaired by Supreme Court Justice Janak de Silva, comprised six members. Its final report was submitted to former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on 1 February 2021. However, the report with witness testimonies and other annexes has not yet been made public.

Minister Ananda Wijepala stated that the report will be released to the public in the future.
