BREAKING: Vraie Cally Balthazaar Elected Colombo Mayor

Vraie Cally Balthazaar was elected Mayor of Colombo a short while ago.

When the inauguarl sittings of the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) was commenced, the National People’s Power (NPP) nominated Vraie Cally Balthazaar, while the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), the main opposition party, put forward Mohammad Reeza Zarook as its candidate.

Accordingly, the NPP requested a secret ballot, while the opposition called for an open vote.

After lengthy and at times heated debate, a secret ballot was held following a proposal that was unanimously approved.

Vraie Cally Balthazaar secured 61 votes, while Mohammad Reeza Zarook received 54 votes.

Two votes were rejected.
