The Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health has raised concerns over a fever of unknown origin spreading in the Jaffna District, prompting health authorities to launch investigations into its cause.

Speaking at a media briefing at the Health Promotion Bureau today (11 December), Dr. Kumudu Weerakoon from the Epidemiology Unit stated that affected patients are experiencing fever and respiratory issues.

Preliminary tests are being conducted to determine whether the illness is linked to leptospirosis, commonly known as ‘rat fever.’ Health officials are actively collecting samples from patients to identify the exact nature of the disease, Dr. Weerakoon confirmed.
