A group of 20 Sri Lankan youths working in the agricultural sector in Israel narrowly escaped injury when the bus they were travelling in caught fire yesterday (18) morning near Kiryat Malakhi.

According to Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Israel, Nimal Bandara, the group was en route to their respective workplaces when the vehicle suddenly burst into flames. The bus was completely destroyed in the blaze.

As the door of the bus became jammed due to the fire, the Sri Lankans onboard managed to break the windows and escape. One individual sustained a leg injury during the incident and was admitted to hospital. His condition has been confirmed as not serious.

“The authorities are investigating the incident, and the rest of the group has resumed their regular work activities,” Ambassador Bandara said in a statement. He also extended his wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured youth.

The embassy continues to monitor the situation closely.
